108 BEYOND THE STODGY: A DIFFERENT LOOK AT CLASSICAL MUSIC
Arts and MusicThis class will exam classical music from the perspective of misguided critics, who declared that certain beloved pieces were ugly, boring and otherwise unlistenable. We'll also hear the original classical compositions that served as the basis for popular songs; for example, how Emmanuel Chabrier's "Espana" became that dreadful 1956 song "Hot Diggity Dog." Dwight Davis has been host of "Morning Classics" on WHRO-FM for over 40 years. He is a graduate of Norview High School and Elon College and served in the US Army in Germany.
