117 “SO YOU WANT TO INVADE FRANCE…” Three German Campaigns That Reshaped Europe (1870, 1914, 1940)

History, Music and Religion

Location: Saint Patrick Catholic School Join Charlie Gough, a Naval Officer and Wolfhound parent who holds two Masters Degrees from the US Naval War College, for an engaging evening as he takes you on a march across history, examining the three major German invasions of France that transformed modern Europe. In this lively, accessible course, he’ll break down the strategy, doctrine, logistics, tactics, weapons, and decision-making on both sides—and uncover the surprising lessons they still offer for the 21st century. Whether you're a seasoned military professional or someone who couldn't find Prussia on a map, you’ll come away with new insight into how wars begin, why campaigns fail or succeed, and how leaders think under pressure. Discussion of each conflict concludes with regional food and beverages from key locations like Sedan, Liège, and the Ardennes—bringing the history (and flavor) of each campaign to life. Come for the strategy and fellowship, and leave with a deeper understanding of Europe’s most dramatic military turning points!
