151 An Industrial Waterfront Tour of the Elizabeth RiverHistory, Politics, and Religion
Course Location: Promenade dock at Town Point Park, Waterside Drive, Norfolk. Have you ever watched military and merchant vessels heading into Hampton Roads and wondered what they are doing and where they are headed? How about all those trucks and trains with their containers? The new Midtown Tunnel? Coal? Shipyards? Chicken feed? It's all happening on the industrial waterfront of one of the busiest waterways in the world, the historic Elizabeth River. Join Captain Jack for a 2-hour tour of things all of us need but few of us ever really get to see! This is an outdoor event (so dress accordingly) on an active waterway, and there is always something really wonderful to see. Embarkation and debarkation will be from the Promenade (seawall) dock at Town Point Park, Waterside Drive, Norfolk VA 23510. This trip is weather-dependent, and a primary day (Sunday, April 15) and back-up day (Sunday, April 29) will be scheduled to allow for inclement weather. The first trip will depart at 12:00 pm and return at 2:00 pm, and the second trip will depart at 2:30 pm and return at 4:30 pm. Participants should plan to arrive 20 minutes ahead of their scheduled departure.
